Bill Brysonesque!
19/12/2007
“The book is a big read giving an insight into another angle on speedway in the UK. Shifting Shale is an amusing Bill Brysonesque view of the tracks and the tracks which we don’t really get from other writers. Jeff clearly loves his speedway and the people that are so much part of the sport. What speedway lacks in numbers on the terraces it by far makes up for in the richness of character of the fans and their willingness to help…there will be future social historians who will love this book but the good news is that you don’t have to wait for it. Dare I say it – this is an ideal way to while away an off-season hour or two (per night for a fair few weeks).”
